Carl Miller 66 of Winooski Vermont passed away peacefully on Sunday July 3rd surrounded by his family. He was known by his friends and family as a fun guy with a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his daughter Brandie, her husband Don Garrison and their children Dakota, Carson and Hudson Garrison. He’s also survived by his brothers Paul, Robert, Tony, Richard, James and Timothy. Billy is also survived by his sisters Beverly Wells, Lynn Goodrich, Nancy Shangraw, Doreen Pratt, and Dorothy Sorrell.

Then in June 1973, he became deputy assistant chief of staff for operations in AIRSOUTH. General Miller's next assignment was deputy commander, Fifth Allied Tactical Air Force, NATO, in Vicenza, Italy, in January 1974. He became commander, Civil Air Patrol-U.S. Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base in August 1975. In November 1977, General Miller was assigned to Hancock Field as commander of the 21st NORAD Region, with additional duty as commander, 21st Air Division. During the Korean War and his two tours of duty in Southeast Asia, General Miller completed 524 combat missions. He was promoted to the grade of brigadier general Nov. 1, 1973, with date of rank Oct. 30, l973.

In the early years before Veterinarians were local, Carl was the “county vet.” People would bring their livestock to him for his opinion and help. Carl was a man of his word, and would stand or fight for what he believed in. He believed and taught his kids that their “word” and “name” was everything. Later in years, he enjoyed playing dominoes and could count dominoes faster than anyone else, even in his last week of life. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. In September 1971 General Miller returned to Southwest Asia as vice commander of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. While commanding the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, he led F-4 strike missions in Operation Linebacker over North Vietnam, and flew 189 combat missions in the F-4. General Miller joined Allied Air Forces Southern Europe , a NATO military headquarters, in Naples, Italy, in January 1973. He was initially assigned as chief of the Tactical Evaluation Section.
